Part A / Who is Allan Spencer? / Materials needed / Our first song!
Welcome. I’m thrilled that you’ve decided to explore the world of ukulele and take on the challenge of learning to play. Although it takes some time and practice to learn how to play, your investment in yourself will yield an experience that most people dream about their entire lives.
Who is this course for? For the most part, this course is for the brand spanking new learner…someone who has never picked up a ukulele and knows nothing or very little about reading music. If you already play ukulele, you may feel more comfortable starting in the intermediate or advanced course. If you don’t play ukulele, but do play another instrument already, that’s great. You’re still in the right place. I’ve taken into account in my lectures to teach both to the new learner and to people who understand music already but want to learn a new instrument.
The objectives of the beginning course by the time you complete are: understanding how to hold and play the ukulele, how to tune your ukulele, reading chords, reading TAB music, and being able to play/sing 4 songs on your own.
These videos lessons are designed to be practiced for 5-6 days before moving on to the next one. However, you understand yourself better than I understand you (of course). So move on to the next video when you confidently feel you are ready to. But I warn you, if you just zip through these lessons because you're eager to get to the end, you run the risk of going back later and taking MUCH MORE time to repair developmental damage. Take your time and develop the muscle memory and skill to move on. You'll thank yourself for it later.
This lecture contains a link to all the sheet music you'll need in this course (and I threw a couple others in there just for fun). I recommend printing them out and playing along with the lesson videos, because sometimes the music is difficult to see on screen.
